Why Men Should Take Birth Control Pills
The responsibility of birth control has been pushed to women, as if pregnancy is solely women’s problem. The older I get, the most noticeable it is, how our society views pregnancy as something women need to deal with or make sure they don’t get pregnant. It takes two to get pregnant, therefore I feel both men and women are responsible for it. Only because men can’t get pregnant, doesn’t mean they should be excused from all responsibility, especially when taking birth control will prevent women from having to experience horrible side effects on female birth control.
I don’t know much about female birth control side effects, since I have never taken birth control in my life. The reason I have never taken birth control pills is, because have always been against pills and very obsessed with being healthy and for that I am thankful, because I never had to experience horrible side effects. What I heard from other women, the side effect are no child’s play, they are many side effects and very extreme in most cases, from depression to migraines. Why should we put ourselves through this torture, when men can take responsibility for once? It is such an easy solution, but yet so many men find excuses not to take the responsibility. No more running away from the problem, men it is time for you to step up. In today’s article we will talk about why men should take birth control and why this is the better option!

Understanding Birth Control Pills
Birth control pills are medications that help avoid pregnancy. The reason they work is, because they contain hormones that regulate sperm production or stop ovulation in women. While they are good to prevent pregnancy, they also come with a lot of unnecessary hormones. Women’s bodies have more hormones so therefore, when they take birth control pills it effects them more than it effects men. Birth control pills have historically been available only for women, but recently male birth control pills have become an option. So men it is time for you to be part of pushing for equality, by taking birth control pills.

Potential Side Effects and Concerns
While male birth control is in my opinion better, there are still potential side effects that I need you to warn about. When it comes to medications most of them have some side effects, so I am not surprised at all. The reason I have never take medications is, because they have side effects, that can effect your health at some level. Here are so potential side effects:
- Mild weight gain
- Mood swings
- Temporary decrease in sperm count
- Slight changes in libido
However, ongoing research is working on minimizing these effects.
Comparing Male and Female Birth Control
Since female birth control has been around for years, people probably have more trust in them than in male birth control. I don’t think anyone would be allowed to sell medications that are not 100% ready and have been tested, but I do understand people who are hesitant to try them. A good thing about male birth control pills is that they offer a safer, hormone-free alternative. No one likes to experience depression or anxiety so this is basically win for everyone.
Public Perception and Cultural Barriers
The big reason why men are so hesitant to take birth control is due to social stigma around it. Some men feel like it is women’s job to take it, some feel they won’t be man enough if they do so, and some for lack of education around it. I feel there needs to be more awareness and education around it, but by taking birth control yourself, you will be able to empower other men to do so.
Common Myths and Misconceptions
- “It will kill my testosterone.” – Most pills maintain normal hormone levels.
